Welcome to the Douglas Freeman High School class of 1978 e-scrapbook. I was a student of the class of 1978, and I wanted to share some of the photos, articles, and films of sporting and social events from my senior year. I hope that you enjoy looking back at these memories as much as I have.
With the help of Drew Bright, the Athletic Director at DSF, I was able to find some of the original 16mm black and white footage of football game films from 1977. Unfortunately through the years some of the films were lost, but I am very pleased with the amount of footage that we were able to recover. I have made this footage available on Youtube and on this website in the Football section.
In addition to the footage provided by the Athletic Department at DSF, I was able to compile many of the original negatives of photos taken by the school photographer. The dark room that my father built during my senior year of high school allowed me to develop these interesting pictures, and I have shared these photos on the website as well. If you have any pictures that would be of interest and that you would like to share please send them to [email protected] , and we will do our best to get them on the site for everyone to enjoy.
After all these years I realize how fortunate I was to have parents who were incredibly involved in the DSF sports programs and who took great interest in recording these memories. My mother, whose 6 children all attended DSF, took the time to save all of the articles that you see in the e-scrapbook from their original publications in the Richmond Times-Dispatch. Her efforts along with my father’s, who was filming in the stands with his 8mm camera with audio and color video, have allowed us to look back on these priceless memories. I feel very lucky to have had such parents who documented and saved these wonderful memories for all of us to enjoy today, and I am proud to dedicate this website to my parents Mark and Anne Sternheimer.
